discusses how Mussolini's fascist government transformed the built environment by sponsoring a wide range of public works projects and intended to bring fascist values of order and hierarchy to cities and towns throughout Italy closely examines the example of Paolo Mezzanotte's project which created a new business district in Milan to show that changes to the urban fabric were often the result of negotiations between various centers of power
