French Visions of Empire: Contesting British Power in India after the Seven Years War

This article examines the French’s response to the decisive defeat to Britain in the Seven Years War that destroyed much of the French empire in North America and seriously weakened the French position in India. It shows that visions of the colonial officials in India and the ministry in France did not hold the same opinion in restoring French presence in India.
