はじめに、首里城の荒廃、大正期の首里―尚順の美術コレクション―、戦時下の首里の状況について、首里をめぐる攻防戦、廃墟となった首里、戦後史の視点から、結びにかえて―出土した王家の位牌―。 戦時下の首里の状況を体験記録や日記を活用しつつ記述。特に中城御殿(尚侯爵家)と王家ゆかりの遺品に焦点をあてている。
